Antique End Tables
End tables don't get a lot of good press. It's the kind of furniture that people don't pay a lot of attention to. It's small, usually goes off to the side of some more "important" piece of furniture, and is often used as a receptacle for mail, magazines, and other common detritus of modern living. However, an end table doesn't have to be invisible or unappreciated.
Antique end tables can add flair to your decor, and because of its understated position in the furniture hierarchy, you can often use an end table to make a style statement you wouldn't do with a more prominent piece of furniture. For example, you could take a new, antique-style end table and paint it an outrageous color as a contrast to its more formal lines. Or you could mix a frankly modern end table with a more eclectic furnishing style and it will look right at home.
The great thing about antique end tables is that just about any relatively small table can be used as an end table. It should be fairly low to the ground and not have a large footprint. Since you don't have to be dogmatic about what constitutes an end table, your chances of finding an antique table that you can use as such go up. So when you're looking for an end table, antique or otherwise, keep an open mind. That lovely round entryway table or that rustic garden stool could do the job beautifully. End tables can be far more than just an afterthought in your decorating scheme.
